The results are in. Picking from ten finalists from dozens of submissions received, “Akoma’ by Alex Gasparetto was named this year’s winner of the Film Challenge Detroit. The awards ceremony was held at Detroit’s Institure of Music Education Thursday night.
“Tired of the Cold” by Jake Gross was named 2nd Place Winner.
First place winners, Gasparetto and three others have won a trip to the Sundance Film Festival for their story of a romantic but dangerous relationship between a black slave and an affluent young white woman,

This was the second year for Film Challenge Detroit. This year’s judges included Local 4’s Devin Scillian, Live In The D’s Tati Amare, Tom Peterson from Specs Howard, and local film critic Greg Russell.
Filmmakers had 4 months to write, produce and direct a 5 to 15 minute short film to the theme ‘Opposites Attract.’
