Michigan-based directors are getting noticed worldwide. Recently, directors Harley Wallen and Jerry Hayes received a big surprise from Spain. For their movie “Moving Parts” they received an award that gives them bragging rights and looks attractive on a mantle shelf. This award was a crystal trophy approximately a foot high with a black base for being selected as a Castell Award Winner. The origin of this award was the Barcelona Film Festival, Barcelona, Spain.
Says Wallen, “It feels pretty special to have been recognized with such an honor.. I didn’t even consider going to Barcelona after the nomination because of the sheer size of the festival and the fact that the grouping we are in includes films budgets up to $2 million.. so to get awarded with this kind of honor having spent for less than most of the other 2000+ submissions is borderline overwhelming..”
The Barcelona Film Festival is one of the world’s premiere film festivals. Each year they embark on a search for today’s undiscovered visionaries in filmmaking and screenwriting from around the world. Presented annually to the most original and well crafted works entered into competition, the Barcelona Film Festival honors films from over 50 countries around the world as standout films and screenplays with important recognition for their filmmaking endeavors.
The movie which is attracting such attention is Wallen’s latest, “Moving Parts.” The film synopsis, “Two very opposite couples are drawn into organized crime and it doesn’t take long until you realize everything and everyone is not what they seem, “ does an inadequate job in describing this thriller with its complicate twists and turns. It features TJ Storm, Henry Frost III and a host of Michigan actors and a crew which turned in superlative productions on a limited budget, .
Says Co-director Jerry Hayes talking of rewards, “The greatest award–the film, creatively collaborating and then sharing. But this beautiful symbol of appreciation for the work is very kind. I’m very touched and proud to have collaborated on directing and acting in this together with Harley Wallen. We had a vision and it came true, continued a friendship and more creative collaborations. And we had a superb team that all gave their best, from producers, to our very talented cast and entire crew. Congrats. And this the finest and most supportive film community truly. Thank You. We are grateful & appreciative.”
“Moving Parts” is Wallen’s second feature length film, his third release and it is proving a film festival favorite. To date it has been picked up by Miami Independent Film Festival, Miami, Fl; Golden Bridge Festival, Moscow, Russian, Federation; Frostbite International Film Festival, Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA and the Los Angeles Cinefest. Los Angeles, California.
