The wonderful thing with ‘period piece’ feature films is that they’re timeless. In the Civil War ‘genre,’ where there have been literally hundreds of offerings since D.W.Griffiths controversial 1915 silent film, ‘The Birth of a Nation,’ audiences remember the big titles. ‘Gone with the Wind’ (1939), ‘The Red Badge of Courage’ (1951), ‘Glory’ (1989), ‘Gettysburg’ (1993) and more recently, ‘Lincoln’ (2012).

But one independent film often finds itself included on the ‘Best Civil War Films’ list alongside these studio giants.

In 2000, Michigan filmmakers from Collective Development Incorporated traveled to southern Virginia to team up with Lionheart Filmworks writer-director Kevin Hershberger and dozens of Civil War re-enactors, to create the multiple award-winning, ‘Wicked Spring.’

After 18 years since filming and its 2002 worldwide release, ‘Wicked Spring’ has not only made its mark on the genre, but continued to grow in popularity. It’s focus is on the ordinary man-turned soldier. Its deeply personal and emotional storytelling, from the homefront to the fields of battle, has captured hearts and minds of audiences around the globe. And has afforded this independent epic to stand its ground, artistically and technologically, amongst Hollywood’s best in the genre.

“This new major release illustrates the ongoing life of a quality product in the marketplace.” – DJ Perry, Producer

Digitally remastered, ‘Wicked Spring’ is now available on Amazon Prime and other digital platforms for old and new audiences alike to experience. DVDs, with an interesting ‘Making of’ extra feature, are also available. This ‘Wicked Spring Special Edition’ is released thru Bridgestone Multimedia Group.

During the 1864 Battle of the Wilderness, three Union and three Confederate soldiers get separated from their units as twilight engulfs the woods and fields. The men wander through the dangerous landscape, separate of each other, until meeting by chance on the bank of a quiet creek.

The men talk – and bond – around a campfire, not realizing they’re enemies. Their stories of family and home are much alike. When dawn breaks and a new round of bloodshed and death readies itself, the soldiers learn the ‘distorted nature’ of their camaraderie.
