A meeting with Detroit native, actor/comedian, Keegan-Michael Key got quite a surprise Tuesday when former first lady Michelle Obama walked through the doors at the Motown Museum.
On a cross-country tour promoting her memoir “Becoming.,” Obama dropped in and spent an hour with the select group of former Wayne State University students talking about education, etc.
The former first lady encouraged the young men to keep on pushing, even through discomfort — saying it’s the only way to grow and to never be ashamed of what they have been through.
“Because you are apologizing for the life that you lived and that somehow that life is not worthy, but it is absolutely what makes you all so unique and so powerful by the many different ways that you got to this place.”
“You don’t want to hide that from anybody,” she said. “Start doing some things that make you feel that little sense of reservation and then push through it and realize that in the end — that’s where the growth happens.”
Journalists were welcomed into the event but were told they would be removed if they asked any questions.
