“The Patron”, a new concept television series from Drop Shadow Productions, recently completed production of its pilot episode and will now begin shopping the series to streaming services and content aggregators throughout North America. The series, directed and produced by Michael R. Steinbeck of Dexter, Mich., is a northern family drama filmed and produced almost entirely with Michigan-based crew and acting talent. Team members came from throughout the state, and shooting locations included Chelsea, Dexter and Whitmore Lake.

“Our primary goal with this is to get the series made, but also to highlight that professional-grade film and television can be made right here,” says Michael Steinbeck, director and producer for the series. “This is our home, and we aim to develop content and productions that can bring the work and economic benefits of TV and film production to the state in a more consistent fashion.”

“The Patron” is written and produced in the spirit of edgier, premium network television series such as “Breaking Bad” and “Justified”. It follows two feuding crime/business families in the upper Midwest who both have a stake in the trafficking of opioids and other illicit drugs into the region. A series of events take place that ultimately leads to the dissolution of a tentative peace between the two families, setting up the series’ tagline: “Consequences have Actions.”

The series stars indie film actor Bill Elverman (who also serves as lead writer) and Michigan actors Andrew Dawe-Collins, Katherine Banks, Brian Heintz, Anthony McNeil, Stephen Dean, and Nate Brassfield.

“Our cast and crew really highlights the talent available here in Michigan, and we can’t wait to share the series with a broader audience to showcase their talents and what’s possible when you produce film and TV here locally,” concludes Steinbeck.

A private screening for cast and crew will take place May 4 in Dexter. The creators of the series will seek production deals for the show after the private screening on May 4. Michigan press, film producers, talent agents and other industry workers interested in attending the private screening can email info@thepatronseries.com for details.
